A New You In 2013 – Part 3: Exercise

EXERCISE – something we all need but often do not get enough of! This article will discuss the benefits of exercise and tips on how to use your exercise program as part of a rehabilitation program.

Suffering from arthritis?

Arthritis is often the cause of pain, stiffness, and achy joints and muscles in the morning. Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease. It is also referred to as arthritis, degenerative joint disease, or simply wear and tear of the joints. If you suffer from arthritis, you may be advised to perform stretching or range-of-motion exercises, strengthening exercises, and aerobic exercises. Some researches believe that exercises such as walking, cycling, and swimming are preferred because they are easier on your joints.

Suffering from osteoporosis?

As therapy, walking is often prescribed to those suffering from osteoporosis (a disease of low bone density). The best exercises for building and maintaining bone density include exercises like walking, called weight-bearing exercises, and strengthening exercises such as lifting weights. You can combine the weight training with the weight bearing by walking while strapping light weights around your wrists and ankles!

Want to improve your heart health?

Aerobic exercises, such as walking, jogging, and biking can improve your cardiovascular health. Working out at least 3-4 times a week for 30 minutes is a great way to keep your lungs and heart strong. If you want to make your work-out fun, try dancing to some upbeat music for 30 minutes!

Trying to shed some extra pounds?

Apart from managing your diet, a balanced approach to weight loss also includes 1 hour of aerobic exercise at least 5 days per week and weight-training exercises at least 2-3 days per week.

Looking for a way to relax?

Exercise can help improve your mood and sleep. For a relaxing exercise session, try practicing deep breathing, meditation, and yoga.
