REAL ESTATE…with a difference: Carrie Underwood’s Canada House!

Back in 2005 when she was only 21, we were all eyes and ears when Carrie Underwood came on stage during the fourth season of “American Idol.” She was beautiful with her perfect features, wavy long blond hair, and she could surely belt out those songs. But Carrie had more than talent, she was obviously a nice person and very likeable. Eight years later, Carrie’s ballooning popularity has gained her a staggering number of major awards such as six Grammys, sixteen “Billboard” Music Awards; her songwriting talent was honored in her nomination for a Golden Globe Award, and she has twice won the Academy of Country Music “Entertainer of the Year” award. She was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2008 and the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2009. Exceptional as this may be, there was yet another major success ahead.

Toward the end of 2008 at one of her concerts in Ottawa, Carrie met hockey player Mike Fisher, then playing for the Ottawa Senators. If opposites attract, Mike and Carrie were a perfect example; Carrie with her light hair, pale complexion and delicate features contrasting with Mike’s chiseled, Greek god features and dark hair. But the things that will hold the couple together is their love of family and their shared Christian faith.

In December 2009, the couple became engaged. On July 10, 2010 they were married in Georgia with players from Mike’s hockey team, judges and contestants from “American Idol,” many country music stars, family and friends in attendance. The day before, Mike had been traded to the Nashville Predators, which made it an even more perfect wedding. Prior to the wedding, they had planned to make their home in Ottawa, spending summers there close to Mike’s family and the other part of the year in Nashville working. Mike already owned 500 acres of prime hunting and fishing land in Ottawa, so they carved out eleven acres to build their dream home and started construction. The palatial house was designed to contain everything they both loved. But time constraints for work demands prevented their being able to use the home as much as they intended. The logical thing to do was to list it for sale even though it had to be a heartbreaking decision. To ease the disappointment, they have now purchased over 400 acres in Nashville, where they are building their second dream home and raise their future family.

Located on eleven acres in Carp, Ontario, close to five golf and country clubs, lakes and the Mississippi River, the property is also conveniently near the Trans-Canada Parkway. When entering the 6,000 square foot gated, five bedroom, five bath home, one is first taken by the dramatic stone two-sided stone fireplace that sores to the ceiling in the two-story great room that separates the dining and living areas. Built on three levels, the upper level contains bedrooms and a romantic master retreat with one of the largest walk-in closets-dressing rooms we have seen. The main level has the attached three-car garage, well appointed mud room, eat-in chef’s kitchen designed for the serious cook and includes the great room, formal dining and a four-season enclosed sun room with its own fireplace. The spacious deck has a hot tub and is also perfect for entertaining. The lower level features a home theatre, gym, wine cellar, family and game room and provides all the elements for casual entertaining including bar and kitchenette.
