New ECJ Chairperson Named

KINGSTON, Jamaica CMC – Attorney, Dorothy Pine-McLarty, has been appointed Chair person of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) replacing Dr. Herbert Thompson who resigned last month after the main opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) protested his decision to accept, on behalf of the ECJ, an award for nation building from the ruling People’s National Party (PNP).

The ECJ in a statement said that Commissioners met with Governor-General, Sir Patrick Allen, earlier this month to formally brief him on the selection of Pine-McLarty, who has been an Independent Commissioner, since the ECJ inception in 2006.

In 2007, she was appointed a member of the Order of Jamaica for outstanding public service.
