Probe Into Death Of Teenager As Residents Continue Protest Action

KINGSTON, Jamaica CMC – The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the death of a 19-year old youth whose killing sparked angry protests by residents from Mountain View Avenue in the capital.

The residents claim that the police shot and killed Romarco Wilson Corporate in “cold blood” on Monday and their protest action has resulted in several roads remaining blocked on Tuesday. Mountain View Avenue is a major route to and from the Norman Manley International airport.

The angry residents have called on Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to intervene as police maintained a presence in the area.

Meanwhile, police said they had seized two firearms and detained several people for questioning during a joint police-military operation in August Town early Tuesday.

Law enforcement officials said they had surrounded sections of Bedward Gardens and neighbouring communities where there had been a violent clashes between rival criminal gangs in recent months.

Head of the Mobile Reserve Assistant Commissioner of Police Winchroy Budhoo told reporters that the two guns were recovered during the search.
