Mandela, Mandela, Mandela

By Devon P. Haughton
Poet, Playwright and Entrepreneur

Mandela, Mandela, Mandela,

A fighter of immense intelligence,

Blessed with God-given patience.

A durable giant,

With the heart of a champion,

And the courage of a lion.

Holding steadfast to his beliefs,

As atrocities mounts on his people,

He languished with one motif,

Good must overcome evil.

Mandela, Mandela, Mandela

Denied to have what was his….LAND,

While being merciful to his perpetrators,

Hatred and bitterness,

Replaced with love and forgiveness.

Fell down, but got back up,

27 years in prison did not deter him,

27 years in prison molded him,

As he wailed out, Equal Rights and Justice, tice, tice, ticeeeeee!!!

Nothing was ever impossible,

From prison to president,

You proved that apartheid was wrong

As millions join you in singing the song.

Mandela, Mandela, Mandela,

Fought for the liberty of generations to come,

Madiba, echoing sounds the beating of the drum,

from near and far, now take to the sky

fly away home, Angels await, standing by.

You came on earth for a purpose,

Mission accomplished, now you left us

Stalwart, icon for peace

As the world mourns your legacy increase.

You created a rainbow nation,

Bringing people together, peaceful liberation.

You were not born to hate,

You were born to love.

R.I.P.
