Cops Found Guilty Of Refusing To Cooperate With Fatal Shooting Investigation

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Eight members of the police force accused of refusing to cooperate with the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) in a fatal double shooting incident, have been found guilty.

The verdict was handed down in the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Monday.

The cops  — Orrette Williamson, Gerville Williams, Francis Rennalls, Devon Noble, David Hutchinson, Petro Green, Marcel Dixon and Kenneth Daley — will be sentenced.

The cops were charged by  the investigative agency – INDECOM, after they refused to give statements regarding a case in which two men, including a 16 year old, were fatally shot by the police the central parish of St. Catherine in 2010.

Attorneys for the police officers insisted that they complied with INDECOM after consulting with their legal teams.

In court the magistrate rejected the defence but said she has no intention of sending the policemen to prison.

Instead they will face a maximum fine of J$3 million (One Jamaica Dollar = US$0.001 cents).
