Depradine’s Recommendations Could Put Toronto Caribbean Festival On Good Footing

Dear Editor:

Allow me this opportunity to commend Pride and contributing writer, Lincoln Depradine, for a very well-written piece on the state of Toronto’s Caribbean Festival.

He not only presented an excellent overview of Caribbean type carnivals in general, and highlighted the misguided approach to staging the festival; but also made recommendations which, if acted on, might put the festival and parade on a much better footing.

If acted on, his recommendations might also cause the Black community to feel more connected again and reinvigorate the festival.

It’s an understatement to say that since 2006 too many in the black community have begun to feel alienated from the festival because they see it as being owned by the City and the bank.

Respectfully,

Henry Gomez
