Jamaican Appointed Chair Of United Nations Security Council Reform

KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador, Courtenay Rattray, has been appointed as Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council reform.

His appointment was announced on Tuesday by President of the 69th Session of the General Assembly, Sam Kutesa, in a letter to Permanent Representatives to the UN in New York.

Reform of the fifteen-member Security Council, has been high on the agenda of the wider UN membership for over 20 years.

A statement from Jamaica’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, said Jamaica has been actively engaged in the reform process, and the appointment of its Permanent Representative will give greater prominence to the island’s role and contribution at the United Nations.
