Former St. Lucia Speaker Robbed, Stabbed, Hospitalized

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Police, last Saturday, confirmed that former Speaker, Mathew Roberts, has been hospitalized after he was discovered on the roadside with a stab wound to his neck.

Police said that they are investigating reports that 60-year-old Roberts had, during the early hours of Saturday morning, stopped his vehicle in Roseau, three miles west of the capital, to give an individual a ride.

The reports said that Roberts was found a mile away in Goodlands, after he was apparently robbed and pushed out of the vehicle that was later found abandoned.

Roberts was found by a passerby in a pool of blood and taken to hospital, where he is reported to be suffering with paralysis from the left side of his neck.
