The Potency Of Thoughts And Ideas

It can be said that thoughts are powerful forces that can give rise to ideas. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word “thought” as “an idea or piece of reasoning produced by thinking.”

There is no doubt that the potency of thoughts is the greatest power that has been bestowed on mankind. It is a God- given gift that can be used for good or evil. Human beings, therefore, have a clear choice.

We can use our thoughts to create ideas which can promote peace and goodwill, or we can use our thoughts to create ideas which can in turn be used to propagate war and destruction.

We should be mindful of the fact that today’s world is the product of our collective thinking. In this respect it is said that “our thoughts create our [ideas] and reality.”

Once the thought process is set in motion every thought goes directly into our subconscious minds and subsequently emerges and finds expression in our ideas and actions. It goes without saying that if we want our ideas and actions to be noble and noteworthy we should nurture healthy, positive thoughts.

Let us not forget that thoughts and ideas are inextricably linked. Ideas are definitely conceived out of the thought process. Once the seed of a serious idea is implanted in the hearts and minds of people, it can replicate and spread like wildfire. In other words it is almost unstoppable.

This idea is impenetrable to bullets, and missiles, for once an idea is set in motion, foot soldiers, tanks and planes cannot halt its movement.

According to Plato, the quintessential Greek philosopher, ideas rule the world. Thus, the only way to combat an idea is to face it dead on with a better idea.

In an age when terrorists are driven by the sheer thought and idea of destruction and hopelessness, Westerners should now realize that the only way to combat this idea of doom is to promote a better idea of hopefulness, civility and construction. We should all realize that violence begets violence with no end in sight.

This entire process is indeed a Herculean task for it is not easy to rid ourselves of bitter, resentful, hate-ridden thoughts and ideas toward others, but with a determined effort we can extricate ourselves from the intricate corrosive web of negative thoughts and ideas.

Thoughts and ideas are extremely contagious in that they can be transmitted to others and by so doing spread like wildfire.

Consider the impact on World Pease if millions of people of all racial and religious background around the world were to form a human chain of thoughts and ideas that transmit friendliness, calmness and serenity at the same moment in time.

If this momentous event were to take place, there is no doubt that this coalescence of thoughts and ideas would probably change the bellicose nature of our human race.
