KINGSTON, Jamaica, July 14, (CMC) – The police in the northern parish of St. Ann have charged a man in connection with the murder of a three-year-old girl, on the weekend.
On Wednesday evening Alexus Newland, also known as “Dal Dal”, from the community of Milford, in the parish, was charged, after being probed by the security officials.
Newland was identified as a person of interest, after police discovered the mutilated body of Nevalesia Campbell, on Sunday.
The child who was reported missing, only hours early, was found with chop wounds all over her body.
Meanwhile, the parents of the three-year-old are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
Mahalia Poyser, 24, a bartender, and her common-law husband, Roy Dawes, 30, were charged on Monday, with breaches of the Child Care and Protection Act.
Poyser had initially told police that Nevalesia had been put to bed, and was later discovered missing.
Investigators say the adults left Nevalesia and her twin brother unsupervised, to attend a party in the community.
The mother discovered the child missing after returning from the party.
In the aftermath of this incident, the Police High Command has issued an appeal to the public to stop sharing sensitive information about victims of crimes, especially children, on social media platforms.
The latest appeal follows the recent sharing of what it says are graphic images of the body of Nevalisia on social media.
