Bermuda Government Backbencher Admits Love Triangle Trespass

HAMILTON, Bermuda, August 18, 2016 (CMC) – Government backbencher, Leah Scott, has been given an absolute discharge by a magistrate, after admitting a charge of trespassing.

Magistrates’ Court heard, yesterday, that the incident, in January, came as a result of a longstanding love triangle, involving the Southampton East Member of Parliament, the complainant, Sonia Williams, and a man romantically linked with both of them.

Defence lawyer, Mark Pettingill, a fellow One Bermuda Alliance government MP, told the court that Scott entered the complainant’s home, without invitation, to tell her she would no longer be pursuing a relationship with the man, and left when told to do so by the complainant.

Scott apologised to the court for her actions.

Noting her clean record, her guilty plea and the severity of the case being at the low end of the spectrum, Magistrate, Khamisi Tokunbo, said an absolute discharge would be appropriate.
