Soldiers Removed From Antigua Prime Minister’s Security Detail

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, August 18, 2016 (CMC) – Members of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF), have been removed from the residence of Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, as the probe continues into the break-in and theft that took place at the property.

The Antigua Observer reports that the ABDF is no longer guarding Browne’s private residence.

The paper also said that when the security detail of soldiers turned up for the evening shift on Monday, they were dismissed and told that their services were no longer required.

Up to late Wednesday, six soldiers were being held for questioning.

“We are carrying out investigations along with the police investigations. As yet there is no determination as to the exact time the incident occurred,” said Major Alando Michael, who is responsible for administration in the ABDF.

He told the Antigua Observer that the army is in full support of the police probe, and will allow them to lead, with respect to prosecution, if a soldier committed the offence.

On Sunday evening, the prime minister and his family returned from vacation in the Dominican Republic and found the house had been burglarised .

Laptops and Ipads were reported missing.
