Jamaican Dancer Remanded For Arson And Wounding

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, March 23, 2017 (CMC) – A Jamaican woman, charged with arson and wounding, was remanded when she appeared in court, yesterday.

Kimone Tasheeka Carty, a dancer, who was wanted by the police, was charged after she allegedly destroyed, by fire, an apartment belonging to Mohammed Saed Haveliwala, earlier this month.

Carty, 24, is also accused of unlawful and malicious wounding. She was not required to enter a plea to either of the indictable charges.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the prosecutor objected on several grounds and told the magistrate that Carty was a non-national, who had no ties to Barbados, and it was feared that she might abscond if granted bail.

The prosecutor also pointed to the nature and seriousness of the offences, allegedly committed by the Carty, and said it was feared that the Jamaican might interfere with the witnesses in the case.

In an application to gain her freedom, at least until the next court date, Carty stated that she did not start the fire and that she was being framed.

“I always take responsibly for my actions,” she said, but admitted that she was guilty of wounding.

However, Carty’s bail application was not granted and she was remanded until April 19.
