Man Charged With Removing Human Skull From Cemetery In St. Lucia

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, March 31, 2017 (CMC) – An employee of the Castries Constituencies Council (CCC) faces a fine of EC$10,000, after he was arrested and charged for removing a human skull from a tomb at the Choc cemetery, north of here.

The incident is alleged to have occurred on March 16, when the employee is alleged to have taken a skull from a tomb that was being excavated in order to accommodate other burials, without a permit, contrary to the islands’ burial, exhumation and cremation laws.

The CCC is also alleging that the employee took the skull to his home, in order to scare persons before disposing of it in the sea.

The employee, who is due to appear in Court here, Friday, could also face a jail term if convicted.
