New Airline Launches New Service Linking Dominica And St. Lucia

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, March 31, 2018 (CMC) – A new airline, offering a direct service between St. Lucia and Dominica, three times a week, has started operations, here.

St. Lucia’s Tourism Minister, Dominic Fedee, welcomed the new service, saying he hopes that it provides more opportunities for the travelling public.

“We look forward to the opportunities that this flight allows, which connects us to even more gateways across the Caribbean,” Fedee said, after InterCaribbean Airways made its inaugural flight into the George FL Charles Airport, on Thursday, from Dominica.

Chairman of the new airline, Lyndon Gardiner, said it is hoped the carrier will be able to connect the entire Caribbean in the future.

“We feel, that once we have better air connectivity, we will be able to have better integration and be able to market the Caribbean as a single destination, offering more multi-destination vacations in our region,” he said.

The airline uses the 30-seater Embraer EMB120 aircraft for the St. Lucia-Dominica route — on Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays — from the Douglas-Charles Airport, while departing from St. Lucia, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The service provides onward connections to the northern Caribbean, including the British Virgin Islands, as well as Cuba, with an additional direct service to St. Croix, commencing on April 12.

Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are to be added to the roster.

The new InterCaribbean Airways’ flights allow for travellers to make two-stop connections to Kingston, Jamaica and Nassau, Bahamas.

“Even allowing for two stops, this is still one of the fastest travel times in the Caribbean,” InterCaribbean said, in a recently-issued media release.
