Man Who Threatened To Kill Guyana’s President Remanded Into Custody

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, April 10, 2018 (CMC) – A 64-year-old man will re-appear in court on April 16, charged with threatening to kill President, David Granger, last month.

Motielall Balkarran, an East Coast Demerara resident, appeared in court yesterday, after the police said, on March 20, he called the Emergency Service, 911, and threatened to kill President Granger by detonating a bomb at the President’s office.

The police also allege that the man had also used expletives at the 911 operator.

Defence attorney, Tiffany Jeffrey, told the court that her client was charged wrongfully, because he was never subjected to voice recognition and verification.

She also argued that it could be someone else, since several other people live in the same house as Balkarran, who was refused bail.
