BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-Nevis, August 23, 2018 (CMC) – Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, says his coalition Team Unity government will provide all the necessary requirements, needed by law enforcement agencies, as they seek to stem the criminal activities in St. Kitts-Nevis.

Addressing members of the reserve arm of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF), Harris, who is also Minister of National Security, said that the record of the government remains unblemished in every area of law enforcement.

“Whether it was in last December, when we expended close to one million dollars of support to the Defence Force, to enhance the fleet of vehicles, or it is, right now, at the Coast Guard headquarters, where we are providing millions of dollars in funds to provide better accommodations for you. The government of St. Kitts and Nevis has never recoiled,” Prime Minister Harris said.

Expressing his appreciation to the SKNDF members for their service in maintaining peace and security in the twin-island Federation, Harris said that “the forces of law and order must never recoil in the face of illegality, and in the face of threat to security of the state”.

“That is critically important. Whatever is required to provide the requisite support to the agents of law and order, this government has pledged to go all the way in that support.”

He said that given the investment being made by the government towards the security agencies, the only expectation is for them to contribute towards making St. Kitts and Nevis a safer place, “because without peace in the land, there is no progress, without peace in the land, the freedom that we now enjoy would be lost. Everything in the end, wages on the context in which the peace dividend is being derived”.

Harris, who has been meeting with the various arms of the security agencies here, over the past few months, said the exercise allows him to listen to their concerns, express his expectations and to leverage their experience and knowledge in achieving a lasting peace in the Federation.

“That is the legacy that we want to leave, and that is what we are hoping you would be able to help us to achieve,” Harris said.
