PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, November 28, 2018 (CMC) – Police Commissioner, Gary Griffith, is promising to “break the back of the drug trade and cripple their businesses”, after police detained nine people, including four Venezuelan nationals, in a multimillion dollar drug bust, on Sunday.
Police said that the four Venezuelan women are assisting their probe, after the drugs, estimated at three million dollars, were seized during an operation in North Valsayn, along the east west corridor.
“This operation follows the recent one, when over two million dollars of illegal drugs and several automatic rifles were seized and persons held. When such seizures take place, somebody in the underworld loses out, which is not my concern,” Griffith said.
Griffith, who has been receiving death threats since taking up the post, earlier this year, said that the police would be coming harder at criminals, the more death threats he receives and the more violent crime being committed here.
“At the end of the 12 rounds, with the grace of God, good would prevail over evil and we would remain standing,” Griffith said.
He said people want to become famous by trying to kill him, and instead of sending the messages to kill him to the police, “let them come to me, they know where to find me, I will make them famous”.
The police said that, acting on intelligence, they executed a search warrant at a house in Valsayn North and, on searching a vehicle, “they discovered 600 kilograms of plant resembling marijuana, with an estimated combined weight of over 600 kg. The narcotics were packaged in black garbage bags”.
