Body Of Medical Doctor Found On University Of The West Indies’ Grounds In Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica, February 5, 2019 (CMC) – The University of the West Indies (UWI) has sought to re-assure students, that security had been beefed up on its Mona campus, after the body of a 68-year-old medical doctor was discovered, yesterday.

“A preliminary assessment of the scene, by members of the Technical Services Division of the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force), indicates that no foul play is suspected. Further, an assessment, by campus security, has indicated that there is no threat to any member of the university community. Notwithstanding, the security on the campus has been increased,” UWI said in a brief statement.

The body of Dr. Judith Rose-Spencer was found in a pond, near University Chapel, with her head and torso submerged, while her feet and one hand were visible.

The circumstances, surrounding her death, are not known, and UWI said it “regrets this unfortunate incident and expresses condolences to the family of the deceased”.

But students were reported to be concerned at the state of security at the region’s premier tertiary institution, with some indicating that the body had been found not far from a security post on campus.

Students have also complained of being robbed and raped on the campus, and that closed-circuit television cameras were only installed at some locations on the campus.
