Jamaica’s Opposition Party Offers Half-Million Dollar Reward

KINGSTON, Jamaica, February 5, 2019 (CMC) – The main opposition People’s National Party (PNP) announced, today, it was offering a half million dollar reward, for information regarding the death of one of its legislators, who was stabbed to death, over the last weekend.

The PNP said that the reward would be made available through “Crime Stop”, for anyone providing information, leading to the arrest of those responsible for the death of the East Portland Member of Parliament, Dr. Lynvale George Bloomfield.

Bloomfield’s body was found, last Saturday, with multiple stab wounds, inside his house in Passley Gardens, Portland, a parish located on the island’s northeast coast.

PNP General Secretary, Julian Robinson, told a news conference that anyone with information should come forward and assist the police.

Robinson said, in addition to the reward, the party would also be having a series of events, including a prayer vigil at the town center in Port Antonio on Saturday, to honour Bloomfield’s service to his community, constituency and the nation.

Robinson described the murder of the medical practitioner as “one in a series of wanton acts of criminality, across the country, that leaves too many individuals and families in mourning and robs the nation of its best potential.

“The security of every Jamaican, regardless of their status, must be assured by the government. It is particularly troubling, when someone such as Dr. Bloomfield, who was clearly an individual diligently serving his country and community, is slaughtered in this way,” Robinson said.

In a condolence message, Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, said that despite “being on the other side of the aisle”, we knew of his love for his constituents and Jamaica”.

Holness added that he was “shocked” at the death, and “the entire Jamaica Labour Party family and Jamaicans are mourning”.
