Five Killed In Vehicular Smash Up In Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, December 19, 2019 (CMC) — At least five people were killed and several others injured, when two vehicles smashed into each other at Fairfield Mahaicony, a community that is made up of several villages on the East Coast of Demerara, police said.

They said that the accident involved a mini-bus and a beverage delivery truck. Details of the accident remain sketchy, but media reports said the mini-bus may have slammed directly into the truck, as the two were both being driven at a fast rate.

The reports said that the impact resulted in some passengers being pitched from the mini-bus onto the roadway. A pregnant woman is believed to be among the fatalities. The names of the victims have not been released.

Residents of the area, where the accident occurred, rushed out to the scene to offer assistance, but were left shocked by the sight of the lifeless bodies along the roadway.
