Trinidad Prime Minister Announces Minor Cabinet Re-Shuffle

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, December 31, 2019 (CMC) – Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, has announced a minor re-shuffling of his cabinet, shifting one of the most senior members of his administration to the post of Minister of Social Development and Family Services.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, today, noted that Camille Robinson Regis, who also serves as Leader of Government Business in the Parliament, had been removed as Minister of Planning and Development to the post of Social Development and Family Services.

She replaces Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn, who has been a Minister in the Ministry of Planning and Development, “to assist the Minister in the performance of such duties, as may be specified from time to time”.

The statement noted that Rowley has been appointed the new Minister of Planning and Development, in addition to his present duties as Prime Minister.

The statement also indicated the Prime Minister had advised President, Paula- Mae Weekes, to revoke the appointment of Adrian Leonce as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Public Utilities and reassign him as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Transport.

In addition, she has been asked to appoint Foster Cummings, a Senator, as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government.

The statement said that the new appointments will come into effect tomorrow, January 1.
