Engine Failure Forces JetBlue To Make Emergency Landing In Grenada

St. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Friday, January 24, 2020 (CMC) – The Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) re-opened, on Wednesday evening, following its closure, “for a short period”, after a US-bound JetBlue aircraft made an emergency landing, soon after take-off.

A government statement said that Flight 950, bound for New York, with 75 passengers on board, made the emergency landing, “after take-off because of a failure in one of its engines”.

“The flight landed without incident and passengers were able to safely disembark,” the statement said.

Media reports had said people, within the vicinity of the airport, heard the loud explosion and saw the aircraft making its return to the MBIA.

The entire airport emergency protocol had been activated and the brief government statement said “the airport has since resumed normal operations”.

Media reports said that JetBlue is sending another aircraft to pick up the stranded passengers. The airline has made no official statement on the incident.
