Grenada Government Embarks On Climate Smart Agricultural Program

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Friday, January 24, 2020 (CMC) – The Grenada government says it has embarked on a Climate Smart Agriculture and Rural Enterprise Programme (SAEP) as part of its efforts to increase productivity and the contribution of the agricultural sector to economic growth, rural poverty reduction and environmental sustainability.

It said that the programme will be jointly financed by Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and will provide technical assistance and financial support to male and female farmers and entrepreneurs in poor rural communities in Grenada.

The Keith Mitchell administration said that this is with a view to increasing their ability to own and operate businesses and/or take advantage of employment opportunities.  It will also promote farmer adoption of new technologies and practices to build resilience to Climate Change and Climate Variability.

According to an official statement issued here, as part of the six year programme a consultant will be employed to develop a website for the SAEP and must have a level of experience in developing a Content Management Systems (CMS) Website as well as working with governmental organizations or rural development programmes in the development of software or providing IT solutions among other criteria.

It said that the consultant would also be required to train persons on the maintenance and up-keeping of the website.
