Ballot Papers Arrive For Guyana’s Regional And General Election

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, February 7, 2020 (CMC) – The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) confirmed, today, that the ballot papers, to be used for the March 2 regional and general elections, have arrived, here.

GECOM said the ballot papers arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, early today, and were taken to its offices, under heavy police guard.

The printing of the ballots and other sensitive material were observed by election commissioners, Charles Corbin and Sase Gunraj.

GECOM has said that an estimated 700,000 registered voters are eligible to cast ballots in the March 2 election, that will be contested by nine political parties, including the ruling coalition — A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC); the main opposition People’s Progressive Party-Civic (PPP-C); A New and United Guyana (ANUG); The New Movement; United Republican Party; Liberty and Justice Party; Change Guyana; and Federal United Party.

Apart from the 2,500 polling stations, an additional 60 will be made available for the disciplined services, who will be casting their votes on February 21.
