Three Charged With The Murder Of Former Soldier In Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, February 20, 2020 (CMC) – Three people, including a married couple, will return to court, on March 24, after they were remanded into custody, yesterday, for the murder of a 22-year-old former soldier, who they had accused of being a thief.

Daniel Forde was beaten to death, last week Tuesday, at Silver Hill, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, in the East Bank Demerara area.

The three accused — Courtney and Candacy Wolfe and Curt Mingo — appeared in the Diamond/Grove Magistrates’ Court, and the attorney for the married couple, Nigel Hughes, said that there had been a miscarriage of justice and is urging the police to conduct a proper investigation into the matter.

The Court heard that 36-year-old Candacy Wolfe had reportedly raised an alarm about the presence of Forde in the area, claiming that he was attempting to break into her shop.

The prosecution alleges that she was joined by her husband and another resident of the area and, together, they savagely beat Daniel Forde about his body.

The man was reportedly tied up and beaten badly, then fitted into a tyre and beaten more, until he died.

The prosecution said that the police had taken statements from more than 20 witnesses.
