Guyana Closes All Schools For Two-Week Period

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, March 13, 2020 (CMC) – Guyana, which, earlier this week, recorded its first positive case of the coronavirus (COVID-19), has ordered all schools in the country closed.

In a brief statement, the Ministry of Education said it “wishes to advise that, with effect from Monday, March 16, 2020, all schools will be closed for two weeks”.

“Additionally, this decision will be reassessed during this period, and further guidance will be provided,” it added.

On Wednesday, Guyana became the third Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to record a case of the virus, following Jamaica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Since then, Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda have reported their first cases.
