Jamaica’s Opposition Leader Being Treated For Stage Three Colon Cancer

KINGSTON, Jamaica, April 7, 2020 (CMC) – Leader of the main opposition People’s National Party (PNP), Dr. Peter Phillips, is currently on leave, following a diagnosis of stage three colon cancer.

In a statement, today, the party said that the opposition leader underwent complete and successful surgical removal of the cancer, on March 23, and is now recovering, comfortably, at home .

The release added that pathological examination of the specimen, as well as staging procedures, have resulted in this curable/stage three diagnosis.

As a result, Phillips will need further preventative treatment, in the form of chemotherapy, over the next few months, as an outpatient, as he continues his public duties.

However, his medical and surgical teams are optimistic of complete remission, based on the worldwide experience of managing stage three colon cancer.

The Leader of the Opposition will remain on leave, for the next two weeks.
