Former Advisor To Grenada Prime Minister Facing Sexual Assault Charges

ST.GEORGE’S, Grenada, June 16, 2020 CMC – A former advisor to Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, is due to return to court on July 23, after he was slapped with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of indecent assault.

Cletus St. Paul, 63, was placed on EC$20,000 bail, after he was arrested on Monday.

He is accused of committing the offence against the female victim, in her 30’s, in November last year, when she sought assistance on a housing matter from the State.

St. Paul also served as the chief bodyguard to assassinated Prime Minister, Maurice Bishop, during the 1979-83 Grenada Revolution, and is presently an advisor in the Ministry of National Security.

Police have also charged one of their colleagues with the offences of rape and indecent assault.

Police Corporal, Che Charles, is facing seven counts of indecent assault and one count of rape on a female officer.

A police statement said that Charles is alleged to have committed the offences, between December 17, 2018 and January 4, last year. He has since been suspended from active duty.

In Grenada, the maximum penalty for sexual assault is 14 years, while rape carries a maximum of 30 years imprisonment.
