We Can’t Afford To Forget: COVID-19 Is A Killer

Ettie RutherfordOver the last year and a few months, we have all been inundated with information about the coronavirus. We have read about it, discussed it repeatedly, and for some, it has been overwhelming, because of the perpetual focus by the media.

However, none of that is as critical as when the virus strikes home. I have just had such an experience.

On Wednesday, February 2, my brother, Lloyd, who lives in Jamaica, was diagnosed with the virus. Less than 24 hours later, he was dead.

The official diagnosis was that he had the virus for a while, but did not realise it. The virus brought on a heart attack.

I am heart-broken, because I cannot go home to be with my family, but, most importantly, is the stark realization, although we have been told repeatedly, that people can have the virus and not know that they are infected.

The day before his diagnosis, my brother was driving his car about, as usual.

I am sharing this because I now realize, more than ever before, that we all have to be extra careful in following the dictates of the medical experts, because we have no idea when, or where, we might come in contact with someone, who, unknowingly, might be infected.

Lest we forget….mask and social distancing, under all circumstances.

Be safe. Be careful. Keep on praying.
