Jamaican Police Contract TB; Investigation Underway

KINGSTON, Jamaica, January 3, 2020 (CMC) – Jamaica’s Police Federation has launched an investigation, following reports that three policemen, who were assigned to the holding area of the Supreme Court, have contracted tuberculosis (TB).

Officials from the federation, who represent the rank and file members of the police force, say the cops were infected while guarding a prisoner, who had the disease.

One of the policemen has been admitted to hospital in serious condition, while the others were treated after visiting private doctors.

TB is a serious infectious disease that mainly affects the lungs.

The bacteria that leads to TB is spread through tiny droplets that are released into the air by coughing and sneezing.
