Dominica PM’s Wife Gives Birth To Baby Boy

ROSEAU, Dominica CMC – Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, became a father for the second time, last Wednesday, after his wife, Melissa, gave birth to a boy, according to an official statement issued here.

It said, that Dmitry Roosevelt Skerrit weighed seven pounds five ounces at birth and that both mother and baby were fine and in good health.

“Prime Minister Skerrit and his wife Melissa are grateful to all who offered encouragement, prayers and well wishes for a successful pregnancy. They have asked that the nation continue to lift up the family in their prayers,” the statement said.

Prime Minister Skerrit, 40, married Melissa Poponne on May 11 at a private ceremony at Skerrit’s residence in Vielle Case, east of the capital.

Skerrit, the leader of the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP), became prime minister following the death of then prime minister Pierre Charles in 2004.
