St. Lucian Nurses For Trinidad And Tobago Health Sector

CASTRIES, St. Lucia CMC – The St. Lucia government has welcomed an offer from Trinidad and Tobago to employ local nurses to fulfill a shortage in the oil-rich twin island republic.

A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister said that Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar made the offer during the recently held Caribbean Community (CARICOM) inter-sessional summit in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The statement quoted Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony as saying that “this is how CARICOM should work.

“If there are shortages of skills and labour in one CARICOM country, then the shortage should be resolved by inviting other CARICOM countries to supply those skills,” he added.

Anthony said the job offer comes at a time when many nurses who were trained in Cuba are in search of employment.

The statement said that interested nurses should contact the Ministry of Health bringing along the relevant documents substantiating their training and certification.
