Teacher In Jamaica Charged For Beating Pupil With Ruler

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – A 59-year-old teacher will appear in court on January 5, next year, after she was charged with beating a student with a ruler at the prestigious St. Richard’s Primary School in St Andrew.

The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper reported, that the grade five teacher, Beverly Dinnall, was charged and offered station bail at J$50,000 (One Jamaica dollar =US$0.004 cents).

Dinnall’s attorney, Peter Champagnie, told the newspaper, that his client had been charged with assault, occasioning actual bodily harm.

It’s alleged, that the teacher hit the male student with a ruler, resulting in a shoulder injury.

Following a medical examination, a report was made to the police, culminating in charges being brought against the teacher, the newspaper added.
