School Principal Beaten By Students In Trinidad And Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Mar 16, (CMC) – A secondary school principal was beaten by two students, on Tuesday, after he allegedly found them gambling in a classroom.

Police said, that they had detained the two students – ages 16 and 17 – from the Rio Claro East Secondary School, south of here, after the principal, Warren Garraway, was allegedly beaten with a dustbin cover.

The principal received treatment for injuries to his face and elbow and the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) said, it was aware of the incident and was awaiting further reports from the police.

A teacher, who witnessed the incident, is expected to be interviewed by the police.

The incident comes as education officials, here, deal with various incidents involving school children, including allegations that students were planning to kill teachers at a secondary school.
