China Provides Funds For Projects In Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana CMC – China is providing Guyana with US$4.9 million to finance projects that have been agreed upon by the two countries.

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh, and China’s ambassador to Guyana, Zhang Limin, signed the agreement on economic and technical co-operation.

Singh said Guyana was proud to be the first Caribbean country to have established diplomatic relations with China and said the relationship had blossomed over the past years.

But he said that China’s friendship with the Caribbean was important and has been reinforced with the visits of high level Chinese officials to the region.

He said, to date, Guyana has made good use of the resources provided by the Chinese government to implement a number of transformative projects and welcomed Chinese companies seeking to do business in the Caribbean.

Singh said Beijing was a good example to the developing world for having attained and sustained rapid growth over the years.

The Chinese diplomat said the agreement represents the second grant provided, this year, to the Guyana and underscores “the long historical friendship shared by both countries”.

He said he was confident that the funds would be utilized to develop the social and economic sectors of the country from which benefits would be accrued to citizens.
