Woman Who Hired Man To Kill Husband Remanded To Prison

GEORGETOWN, Guyana CMC – A woman, who reportedly admitted paying a hit man to kill her husband earlier this month, will re-appear in court on October 13.

Gwendolyn Persaud appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan, in the Georgetown Magistrates Court, and was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

The battered body of her husband, Nathan Persaud, a carpenter, was found in his Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home On September 10. His wife later admitted that she had hired someone to kill him.

She is reported to have hired a man named “Jason” to do the killing. The man remains at large.

Police said, that the body of the 43 year-old husband was found with several wounds to his head. A knife and hammer were found at the scene, and a post-mortem examination later revealed that Persaud sustained at least 20 wounds to the head.

The accused was arrested hours after the body was found when investigators suspected the home invasion and murder to be staged.

The two were engaged in a dispute over a property which was engaging the attention of the court.
