Guyana Police Detain Five Following Armed Robbery At Hotel And Casino

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, May 2, (CMC) – Guyana police have detained five men suspected of involvement in armed robbery of a hotel and casino that resulted in a shoot-out that wounded a police officer and four others.

Police said that one of the suspects in the weekend armed robbery was a security guard, whom they believe was the mastermind of the robbery and may have been the one who pulled the team together to carry out the robbery.

One of the four gunmen was arrested when police responded to the report of a robbery at the Casino.

Another suspect was arrested after he was found hiding in a maintenance room at the hotel in the capital. It’s not immediately clear if authorities recovered all the undisclosed amount of money that was stolen from the casino.

But a suspect who was arrested on Sunday night was found with a large quantity of wet cash and valuables that investigators believe were taken from the casino and its patrons.
