Four Charged Under Anti-Gang Legislation In Trinidad And Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, November 14, 2018 (CMC) – Four men, including a 19-year-old youth, will re-appear in court on December 11, after they were charged with being members of a gang, in contravention of the Anti-Gang legislation that was passed in the Parliament, here, six months ago.

The four – Renaldo Gomez, 31,  Avinash Suchit, 19, Kenson Williams, 32 and 26-year-old Kervon McIntyre, 26, — pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared before Senior Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor in the Arima Magistrate’s First Court, east of here, yesterday.

The men were arrested by the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU), earlier this month, and charged under section 6 (1) (b) of the Anti-Gang Act 2018 for the offence of being in a gang.

In addition to the charge of being in a gang, Williams and McIntyre were also charged with the possession of marijuana. They pleaded guilty to the marijuana charge and were fined TT$1600 each, to be paid within 14 days.

They were also granted TT$85,000 bail on the charge of being a member of a gang, while bail was denied to Gomez and Suchit, pending further investigation.
