Grenada’s National Democratic Congress Hit With Four Resignations Since Election Defeat

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, April 2, 2019 (CMC) – The public relations officer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Randall Robinson, has resigned, the fourth resignation to hit the party that lost all 15 seats in the March 13, general elections, last year.

“Long live the NDC. Today I left office as PRO. It has been my pleasure to serve. Know that I love you, loads. Sabbatical time now,” Robinson wrote on his Facebook page, late Sunday,  hours after the party held its general council meeting.

Robinson later explained that he had previously indicated to the party, his intention to resign, saying “I cannot be in more than one place at the same time, and right now, I am focusing on my business and some other personal things, my plate is full”.

His resignation follows that of political leader, Nazim Burke; chairman, Vincent Roberts; and the assistant public relations officer, Ron Redhead.

The NDC was unable to win any seats in the House of Representatives for the past two general elections, but it also failed to win a seat in the 1999 poll.

Burke has since recommended that a convention, to elect a new leader, be held before March 2019 and Joseph Andall, who was the party’s candidate for the St Patrick West Constituency, act as the interim leader.

However, at the general council meeting, over the weekend, it approved a resolution that a convention should be held, no later than November 30, this year.

“We have a recommendation, so when we meet at the management meeting on Tuesday, we will decide, and then we will make an announcement,” said Glen Noel, who is serving as general secretary of the party.
