Adaoma Patterson Nominated Candidate for NDP In Brampton West

BRAMPTON, Ontario – On Sunday May 17, the NDP Brampton West Riding Association confirmed Adaoma Patterson as its candidate in the upcoming federal election.

Jagmeet Singh, M.P.P. and Deputy Leader of the Ontario NDP; Honourable Mary Anne Chambers, former provincial Minister of Children & Youth Services; and Chris-Beth Cowie, youth entrepreneur and motivational speaker, all spoke in support of Patterson’s candidacy.

Additionally, Jim McDowell, President of the Peel Labour Council, announced that the labour organization will endorse Patterson.

Winnipeg-born Patterson has been a resident of Brampton West for the past 11 years and has a long history of community and public service, including her recent role leading a three-year community poverty reduction strategy. She has also served as an employment counsellor and Coordinator for Ontario Works, YMCA Employment Services and the Caribbean Association of Peel respectively.

Patterson was also the principal consultant for ACP Consulting, an event management company, responsible for the creation and production of the Essence of Mahogany Bridal & Beauty Show, which ran for five years.

Patterson says she is committed to the advancement of social justice and progressive public policy, as demonstrated in her extensive volunteer roles as a member of the United Way of Peel Region’s Allocations Committee, previous board member of the Jamaican Canadian Association, current Vice-President of the Horace Patterson Scholarship Foundation (a charity dedicated to her father’s memory), and member of the Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance’s Steering Committee.

In 2010, she was selected as a DiverseCity Fellow, and in 2014, she received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Jamaican Canadian Association.
