Robinson made the comment shortly after reports emerged that government websites in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as well as The Bahamas were attacked by Islamic extremists.

According to the Technology Minister, a cyber security strategy was implemented earlier this year.

A key component is a Cyber Incident Response Team (CIRT).

“We have begun the implementation of that, we have installed the equipment that will be sued at the CIRT, we have done training and we expect it to be operational by June. It enables us with the capacity to better monitor activity on the internet, and to be in a position to detect potential threats even before they take place,” he said.

Last week, The Bahamas reported that two of its websites were hacked by members of a Tunisian Islamist activist group, called the Fallaga Team.

While in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the official government website was hacked on May 3 by a group claiming to be affiliated with the Islamic State.
