Trinidad Confirms Two Additional Cases Of The Zika Virus

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Apr. 7, (CMC) – The number of persons who have been infected with the Zika virus here, continues to climb, with the Health Ministry reporting two additional cases.

The Ministry said that following consultation with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) the total number of confirmed cases of the mosquito-borne virus, has increased to 11.

The Ministry noted that the two new cases appear to have been locally acquired, and health officials in the communities in which the two reside, have been notified; as a result, field work has commenced.

The Ministry of Health has also called on residents to take steps to prevent becoming infected. To date there are no confirmed cases in Tobago.
