Man Who Made Bomb Threat Jailed

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, June 21, (CMC) – A 42-year-old employee of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) was given a three-week jail term, today, after he pleaded guilty to phoning in a bomb threat at a mall, here, last month.

Magistrate Indar Jagroo sentenced Glen Dalrymple, a father of three, to jail, on the charge of misusing a phone by sending a message knowing it to be false, to the inconvenience and needless anxiety to persons at Trincity Mall, east of here, on May 26.

Last month, Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Rowley, said that his administration was taking the threat to bomb shopping malls, here, seriously and warned that it would use every available resource to protect the State and its citizens.

National Security Minister, retired Major General Edmund Dillon, had also urged residents to remain calm as police continued their investigations into the authenticity of two recordings, shared via Whatsapp, warning of a plot to bomb several shopping malls in the country.

Dalrymple is the second person detained for making bomb threats.

The first unidentified man later claimed that he was not the one responsible for the call and had lent out his phone to another individual.

He was detained for three days before being released.
