Pregnant Woman Charged With Cocaine Possession In Trinidad And Tobago

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, April 19, 2018 (CMC) – A pregnant woman, who appeared in court, yesterday, has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Melissa Pancham, 32, a mother of two, was arrested, earlier this week, after the police found 27 grams of cocaine in her possession. 

Pancham initially pleaded guilty, when the charge was read to her by Senior Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine, in the San Fernando First Court.

However, the magistrate noticed she was shaking her head, while the prosecutor was reading the facts in the matter.

When asked if she agreed with the facts, Pancham said she did not, and the magistrate then entered a not guilty plea.

Pancham, who is two and a half months’ pregnant, was granted bail.

The matter will return to court on May 16.
