Guyanese-born Security Guard Files Lawsuit Against Postal Company

NEW YORK, U.S.A. CMC – A Guyanese-born security guard has filed a lawsuit against a major postal company here claiming she was sexually assaulted by one of the company’s managers in his office.

The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified monetary damages, accuses United Postal Service (UPS) and the manager of creating a hostile work environment.

The New York Daily News reported that Mohanie Sukhu, 41, a widow and mother of two children, claimed she had been summoned to UPS loss prevention manager James Jiggets’ office and on arrival there found Jiggets standing with his pants pulled down.

The suit claims that he allegedly forced her to perform oral sex on him and then attempted to remove her pants to have sex with her.

“She is new to the country, does not read or write very well, and she wants other women in her position not to fear speaking out,” said Sukhu’s attorney, Andrew Laufer.

The Office of the Bronx District confirmed that it is investigating Sudhu’s claim but declined further comment.

The lawsuit claimed that the attack occurred in August and the alleged assailant was fired shortly after it was reported to the New York Police Department (NYPD).

But Jiggets claimed that the sex was consensual, declining to elaborate.

“I deny these allegations, I have no comment, and I’m looking forward to being vindicated in court, not the press,” he told the newspaper.

Laufer also alleged that his client has received “harassing” calls from Jiggets since the incident.

“My client never had any type of relationship with him.  We’re a little frustrated by the pace of the investigation.”

Laufer said Sukhu works for a private security company that is subcontracted by UPS to provide guards at its facilities.

UPS spokeswoman, Susan Rosenberg, said the company has taken “the allegations seriously.

“It has been thoroughly investigated, and we took action. We want to have a work environment free of harassment or any activity that is inappropriate,” she added.
