Michael Van Cooten, Publisher and Editor of Pride News Magazine, announces the appointment of Lekan Afolabi as a weekly Sports Columnist, as of Tuesday, April 7.
“I am honoured and very excited to join Pride News Magazine, and I am thankful for this wonderful opportunity,” said Afolabi.
A passionate sports fan — especially basketball — Afolabi, who is a veteran writer, graduated from Ottawa’s Carleton University with a communications degree.
He writes, monthly, about basketball via his blog, thevicariousathlete.wordpress.com, and recently worked with the first Black female WNBA agent in Canada through her non-profit sports organization.
Afolabi’s first column, about Kobe Bryant’s NBA basketball legacy, appears in this edition, starting on page 10. His next submission will deal with why Raptor fans should keep the faith, despite recent losses.
