MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica CMC – The National Diaspora Policy will be heading to Cabinet shortly for deliberation.
This was announced by Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller as she addressed members of the Diaspora attending the sixth edition of the Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference here.
“The policy will focus on engaging our people overseas including the national economic growth agenda, the policy will serve the interest of both Jamaica and its Diaspora. It is inclusive of engaging all stakeholders in the Diaspora and in Jamaica.
Members of the Diaspora were also encouraged to help protect  “brand Jamaica” and sell it to the world
“We have a powerful brand that cannot be beaten anywhere, as ambassadors we must collectively protest resources, standards and values that make Jamaica great in the eyes of the world,” the Prime Minister said.
“We have the potential to derive substantial economic benefits from our creative industry,”  she added.
The Diaspora conference ends on Thursday. An estimated three million people are in the Jamaican Diaspora.
