The Vieille Case Primary School was named after Baroness Scotland, who arrived here on Friday on a four-day visit.

“Everyone knows that I love children, everyone knows that one of the biggest things that I want to do as Commonwealth Secretary General is to prove the future of our young people,” she said, noting that 60 per cent of the Commonwealth will be below the age of 30 by the year 2030.

“Our vision, our hope, our aspirations are all for our children. To have a school named after me in Vieille Case, which is where my mother comes from, is something I will treasure for always,” she said, adding that she was “touched and thrilled” at the invitation of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit for her to visit the island.

“I want to give Prime Minister Skerrit my warmest thanks and appreciation. He, through thick and thin, remained faithful to his own vision and he had support from those around him to keep faith with me when others may have wanted him to go another way. No one should take away from him the fortitude, the courage, and determination he had to remain true to his word,” Baroness Scotland noted.

The official renaming ceremony of the Vieille Case Primary School took place on Monday.
